Ferromagnetic resonance linewidth in thin films coupled to NiO

چکیده
The out-of-plane angular dependence of the ferromagnetic resonance linewidth, ∆H, has been measured for thin magnetic films coupled to NiO and for uncoupled control films. In the control films, ∆H is described by nearly angle-independent damping parameters. In the NiO-coupled films, however, the damping was found to depend strongly on magnetization orientation, with linewidth values comparable to the control samples at normal orientation, but several times larger when the magnetization lies in plane. The additional linewidth in the NiO-coupled films follows the angular dependence of the number of nearly degenerate spin wave modes, in agreement with the predictions of a two-magnon scattering model of damping which incorporates a spin wave dispersion relation suitable for ultra-thin films.

Magnetostrictive thin films for microwave spintronics
Multiferroic composite materials, consisting of coupled ferromagnetic and piezoelectric phases, are of great importance in the drive towards creating faster, smaller and more energy efficient devices for information and communications technologies. Such devices require thin ferromagnetic films with large magnetostriction and narrow microwave resonance linewidths. Both properties are often degra...

Ferromagnetic ~FM! resonance and magnetization curve measurements were performed at room temperature for a polycrystalline Ni81Fe19 coupled to NiO. It was observed that the shape of the angular variation of the resonance field is frequency dependent, with the curve at 9.65 GHz typical for a strongly exchange-coupled bilayer, while the 34.0 GHz curve is characteristic for relatively weak interac...
متن کاملYttrium Iron Garnet Thin Films with Very Low Damping Obtained by Recrystallization of Amorphous Material.
We have investigated recrystallization of amorphous Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) by annealing in oxygen atmosphere. Our findings show that well below the melting temperature the material transforms into a fully epitaxial layer with exceptional quality, both structural and magnetic. In ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) ultra low damping and extremely narrow linewidth can be observed. For a 56 nm thick ...

The broadband ferromagnetic resonance FMR linewidth of the free layer of magnetic tunnel junctions is used as a simple diagnostic of the quality of the magnetic structure. The FMR linewidth increases near the field regions of free layer reversal and pinned layer reversal, and this increase correlates with an increase in magnetic hysteresis in unpatterned films, low-frequency noise in patterned ...
